<B>Robert E. Lee Autograph Note Signed, War Date, Commenting On A Sermon Given By 'Bishop Cobb'.</B></I> Handwritten and signed by General Robert E. Lee, this letter dated December 19, 1864 is addressed to Reverend C. I. Gibson. Commenting on a sermon written by a Bishop Cobb, Lee writes: "<I>My Dear Sir. I return with many thanks the sermon of Bishop Cobb. It is calculated to give great comfort. R E Lee 19 Dec 1864</B></I>". <BR><BR>Bishop Nicholas Hamner Cobb was a noted Episcopal Bishop in Alabama. On the date Lee wrote the letter, President Lincoln called for 300,000 more troops for the Union. Also on December 19, 1864 Savannah was evacuated. <BR><BR>Measuring 7.5" x 5", the letter is completely handwritten and signed by Lee.
