Robert E. Lee Document Signed, "R E Lee", 2 pages, 10" x 16", San Antonio, Texas, November 17, 1860. Lee's days as a U.S. Army Regular in Texas were winding down by the time he endorsed this scarce manuscript document on the eve of the Civil War. Titled "Inventory and Inspection Report on Subsistence Stores Fort Duncan Texas Nov. 9th 1860", the report itemizes 2,025 pounds of bacon and 30 pounds of sugar on hand at the remote Rio Grande post. The sugar is described as "dirty, unfit for use" and is thus ordered "To be sold". (Begging the question of to whom, considering.) Lee lends his distinctive signature to a secretarial endorsement on the verso. Light browning on folds as expected, else fine condition. Housed in a custom library binder having gold foil titles stamped on the cover and the spine.

Important
