Robert Crumb - Original Art for Kafka, page 117 (Icon, 1993). Robert Crumb is not only a fan of early American music he is also a fan of European history. This is evidenced in his boldest, and biggest, project, an adaptation of Kafka. Written by David Zane Mairowitz, published in England by Icon Books, Crumb spent over a year drawing the 176 pages. The book was published again years later by Kitchen Sink. This is one of the finer pages from the book, with a barmaid dispersing a rowdy crowd with a bullwhip. Makes you sting just thinking about it! Two pieces of graph paper were used for this original art, the one that Crumb drew on has been taped near the corners to a larger piece. It measures 12.5" x 9.75" with the image area being 9.75" x 6.25". Something different to add to your underground art collection.
