Robert Crumb - Cocktail D'Amour Serigraph Print, 130/130 (Alain Toupin, 2002). Robert Crumb may be best known as the Father of Underground Comix, but he would just as soon be known as a musician. Like Woody Allen, who quietly sits in on clarinet with a small New York-based jazz combo, Crumb prefers to spend his spare time picking his mandolin with French outfit Les Primitifs Du Futur. That's him in the far left corner, a dazed look in his eyes as he stomps out a beat with the band. Magnifique! Here's a few quotes about the music from the actual album cover this image was created for: "A memorable and interesting fusion of American roots music, Creole blues, Appalachian bluegrass, and Musica Gitana (European Bolero) develops in what is appropriately titled ‘Cocktail D’Amour’. The inspired cast of musicians is versatile; from country ballad to earthy blues to twangy bluegrass, they transport us from lazy 19th Century Appalachia to the busy streets of a European Carnival, to the smoky back room of a Creole Jazz Club in early 20th century Paris, and back to a Dixieland Jamboree in the Heartland. Baritone sax evokes nostalgia for a simple and joyous pre-WWII era. The accordion sweeps back and forth while Crumb’s mandolin swings in time with a soulful harmonica melody." This print, the final number of the 130 numbered limited editions, is a hand-pulled serigraph on Arches Velin 220 gram weight 100% cotton archival paper; the image area is 16" x 16", and the overall paper size is 19.5" x 19.5". Signed and numbered in pencil by Crumb; in Excellent condition. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the distributor of the print edition, Art & Love of Music, who acquired the print directly from the publisher, Alain Toupin, in 2002. From the collection of Barry Silbergeld of Art & Love of Music.

Shipping: Large Flat (view shipping information)
