Three original preliminary sketches for the series of large murals, which were
commissioned in 1968 by Sir Basil Goulding for his new Fitzwilton headquarters
in Winton Terrace, Dublin (now in the collection of TCD). The murals were
composed of abstract fields of colour resembling countries on a map, drawing a
comparison between the arbitrary nature of political boundaries and the random
nature of an artist drawing lines. Ballagh went on to create a smaller series of
the "maps", which won an honourable mention in the under-25 section at the 1968
Living Art exhibition.
