British military officer and founder of the world scouting movement (1857–1941). TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, blindstamped Boy Scouts letterhead, April 22, 1914. Letter to Alfred Jonas. In part: “I have heard with great interest of the proposal to inaugurate a National Sports Museum and Library, and, from what I have heard of it, the successful carrying out of such an enterprize [sic] might do much to encourage athletics and sports in this country…Good clean sport can make our lads and young men plucky and enduring, and that inculcates into them the spirit of ‘playing the game’ and thus makes them worthy of that highest of titles ‘good sportsmen,’ which has my hearty approval.” In very good condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds (partial separation to horizontal fold), scattered creases, tape remnants to right border, and pencil notations to bottom.
