Nobel Prize-winning physicist (1868-1953) who was the first to isolate the electron and measure its charge. TLS signed “R. A. Millikan,” one page, 6 x 8.5, California Institute of Technology letterhead, April 8, 1942. Letter to John G. Moore, in full: "I want to thank you for your letter of March 27th with its enclosure of Robert M. Hutchins' paper on 'Ethics, Politics, and Education,' and also Dr. Bird's letter with his enclosure to you. I was present when Mr. Hutchins read his paper and saw some things in it which I thought were good and some which were bad. I am sure that can be said about every one of my own addresses in this broad field. I suspect that neither he nor I can do better than to get our idea down in very definite shape, as I did, for example, in the Stanford address, and leave it to the intelligence of our readers to determine to what extent we are right and what extent wrong." Notations to lower border in an unknown hand. In fine condition.
