Heinlein's science fiction tale, The Star Beast, focuses on an alien creature who was smuggled back to Earth as a pet, where it lives for over a hundred years and is raised by several generations of the Thomas family. One day "Lummox," the Star Beast, takes a walk through town, and unintentionally wreaks mayhem in the neighborhood. Although the Star Beast is a gentle soul, his appearance frightens those he comes in contact with. As a result, John Thomas finds himself in trouble with his mother and the law, and has only his girlfriend to help him.
