Norwegian explorer (1872–1928) who navigated the Northwest Passage, fixed the position of the North Magnetic Pole, and was the first to reach the South Pole. TNS, one page, 6 x 7.5, May 18, 1926. Written from Nome, Alaska, Amundsen extends a two-word note of appreciation to Alfred M. Collins, the president of the Geographical Society of Philadelphia: "Hearty thanks." In fine condition, with pin holes to the upper left corner area. Collins was a well-known explorer and sportsman who made several trips to Africa and other regions in search of big game.
