Topographical Maps of the Road from Missouri to Oregon in Seven Sections, 1846. Compiled by Charles Preuss, Assistant to John C. Fremont. Scale 10 miles to the inch. This series of seven maps accompanied Fremont’s published journal of his exploratory trip June 1842-July 1842 and the second trip, made the following year, over the same approx. period of time, starting in new territory Aug 16, 1843 and finishing in Oct. 26, 1843 at Fort Walla Walla. The seven sections have the following order, from east to west: Section I, II, VI, V, IV, III, VII. The maps contain various notes about topography, water, range land, Indians, buffalo, and forts. They show the route taken inclusive of ancillary trails. Trails of various Indian tribes are shown. Lengthy notes accompany the maps, printed in the margins. Each map measures approx. 26” x 15 ½.” Fabulous set.City: County: State: MODate:
