Offering this 1940's hand lathe that is designed for reconditioning armatures for GM, Ford, and Chrysler cars and trucks that have .562, .625, or .635 armature shaft, where the collet of this tool fits on, to true or turn the commutator shaft. Basically this is a human powered lathe, designed to save time in the automotive shop, by not having to send lathe work out to a machine shop. There is a paper included that states there was other size collects available, but the 3 mentioned above are the standard kit. A date is mention of a 1941-42 Ford that requires a .669" diameter collet. This same type of machine collet was used on several type of lathes and milling machines from this era. This tool is in very nice condition, appears to have all the parts, and even a few extras. The tool is marked "RITE TOOL INC. FALL RIVER MASS. U.S.A. PAT. 2143091" a patent date in 1940. The direction show that undercutting operations can be done with this tool as well. A very nicely illustrated instruction paper is included also. The metal case has some surface rust on it, about 40% gray paint intact, and is marked "MADE BY STEVENS WALDEN INC. WORCESTER MASS." on the bottom outside. The case also has a place to hold 2 of the three included collets to fit this lathe. We have never seen another one like this, a very nice old automotive tool!
