Rising Day and its companion work, Descending Night, were originally designed as fountain figures for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Following the exhibition, Weizmann reproduced both works in two sizes, one measuring approximately 25 inches tall and the other approximately 57 inches. Examples of Rising Day are in the collections of The Cleveland Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Weizmann works are mostly in a sort of lyrical classical style. His figures typically are found wearing Greece Roman clothing, but there is a fluidity found in his work that is a harbinger of the Art Deco style that was to follow him and winged figure is a personification of the waning hours of daylight. This sculpture was cast using the Lost Wax Method and has a brown patina and is mounted on a marble base. Bronze Dimensions with Marble Base: Height 16 X Width 11 inches. Weight: 8 LBS.
