Author (1908–1960) of numerous powerful and at times controversial novels and short stories. Signed book: Native Son. First edition, first printing. NY: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1940. Hardcover (no dustjacket), 6 x 8.25. Signed in fountain pen on the first free end page, “With best wishes, Richard Wright, 3/5/40.” In very good condition, with creasing to the signed page and soiling touching Wright’s name, toning, mild wear and soiling to the boards (a little heavier at the spine), and the moderately-sunned spine a bit loose but the pages fully intact. Native Son remains one of the 20th century’s most important literary pieces, and signed first editions are scarce.
