Richard Volpe first gained national attention for his writing and, in 1966, he received the Samuel French Award for one of his plays. He first experimented with etching in 1965 and, during the following years, created a number of works of art in this medium, most dealing with landscapes and animal depictions. The artist spent considerable time both working and living in the Pacific coast regions. * During his career, the art of Richard Volpe has been the subject of more than twenty-five one man exhibitions. Today his fine art is included in the permanent collections of the University of Delaware, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. - From artoftheprint.com
