<B> Richard Steele Autograph Letter Signed </B></I> "<I>Richard Steele.</B></I>" Two pages, 6.75" x 8.75", Wendover, England, March 24, 1721. This letter was written to the Earle of Sunderland, whose name was Robert Spencer. It reads in part, "<I>…On Wednesday I carryed </B></I>[sic]<I> the Election here by a majority of Seventy-one voices above Sr. Roger Hill, and hope I am in a method of continuing member for this place on any future occasion. It is with greatest pain to me that I earnestly entreat your Lordship to send me the like sum you did before, till I can adjust some affairs of my own…" </B></I> Steele was the co-founder of <I> The Spectator </B></I> magazine along with his friend Joseph Addison. He was active in British politics and even served in parliament, until he was removed for publishing controversial literature. <BR><BR> The letter is in fine condition; usual folds are present; light staining on folds; paper is slightly brittle.
