Richard Rush Signed Passport Document and a John C. Calhoun Autograph. An interesting lot comprised of an early passport document 8” x 10”, printed on one side, with the seal of the United States and signed by Richard Rush as acting Secretary of State. Richard Rush (1780-1859) served many government roles in the earth 19th century. In 1817 he was made acting Secretary of State until of the return of John Quincy Adams from a trip to Europe. The document displays the usual crease marks, has toned with age especially at the edges, with one small tear at the lower edge of the left margin not affecting text, else it is in very good condition. Also included in the lot is a John C. Calhoun signature, in ink, excised from a larger document and mounted on a 3.25” x 1.25” paper backing. The signature, though small, is quite impressive and in fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
