Richard Rush Document Signed as Acting Secretary of State “Richard Rush”. One page, 15.5” x 12.5”, vellum, Washington, March 4, 1817, with the seal of the United States Department of State. This document represents the official credentials for Jeremy Robinson, appointed as commercial agent for United States business interests in Peru. The document gives Robinson's physical characteristics and admonishes all who come in contact with him to “act towards the said, Jeremy Robinson, in the most friendly manner in giving him all aid and protection, as these United States would do in like cases.” Richard Rush (1780-1959) served in the capacity of acting Secretary of State for a short time while John Quincy Adams was on a European mission. The document has nicely toned with age and is in fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
