Son of Declaration signer Benjamin Rush, who served as Attorney General, Acting Secretary of State, and Secretary of the Treasury (1780–1859); these influential roles helped bring about the Monroe Doctrine. Third-person ALS signed “R. Rush,” one page, 7.75 x 10, April 9, 1814. Handwritten letter, in full: "R. Rush acknowledges the receipt of his friend Mr. J. N. Banker's letter of the 5th instant, and in answer begs leave to say, that he will, with pleasure, throw in his good word with the secretary of war in behalf of Mr. Read." In fine condition.
