Partly-printed DS, one page, 22.5 x 18.5, November 12, 1969. President Nixon appoints Ralph E. Carpenter, Jr., of New York as "a Member of the Committee for the Preservation of the White House." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Richard Nixon and countersigned by Secretary of State William P. Rogers. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. Framed to an overall size of 24 x 20. In fine condition, with light overall rippling; the frame is damaged but could easily be removed or replaced. A noted conservationist and colonial furniture expert, Carpenter oversaw restorations of many historically significant properties in Newport, Rhode Island.
