TLS signed “RN,” one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, July 30, 1974. Letter to Congressman and Mrs. C. W. Bill Young, sent ten days before his resignation from the presidency. In full: "Pat and I were delighted to learn that you will be celebrating your twenty-fifth wedding anniversary on August 20. We would like to join with your family and friends in expressing our heartfelt congratulations to you. Your life together gives eloquent testimony to the great good that can come when two people with love for one another—and with shared ideals—commit themselves to one another." In fine condition. It is noteworthy that President Nixon sent this letter three weeks before the Youngs' silver wedding anniversary, rather than at a date closer to the event. Articles of impeachment had been adopted by the House Judiciary Committee on July 27th, and Nixon felt the Watergate investigation closing in on the nation's highest office—this letter seems to represent the president tying up loose ends as he prepared to leave office.
