TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, February 18, 1970. Memo to Vice President Spiro T. Agnew. In part: “I concur with your recommendation that we move to abolish the Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, as presently constituted. Would you please convene a working group to develop recommendations on how we should proceed in this area.” A copy of President Nixon’s four-page executive order for “Prescribing Arrangements for Developing and Coordinating a National Program for Physical Fitness and Sports” is paperclipped to the letter. In fine condition. Originates from the personal estate of Spiro Agnew. The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports actually expanded under these special advisors, and in 1972 President Nixon established the Presidential Sports Award to encourage participation in physical activities.
