TLS signed “Dick,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Office of the Vice President letterhead, June 20, 1955. Letter to James S. Copley, in full: “I am enclosing a copy of the speech I made on Friday evening to the Young Republican Convention. As you will note, there is nothing new or profound in it, but I thought it was time to set forth what to me is the unanswerable case the Administration has to offer on the economic issue. For twenty years our opponents have been beating us over the head with the claim that Republican economic policies meant depression and that Democratic policies meant good times. The Eisenhower record has destroyed this myth once and for all, and it seems to me that it is time we did a better job of letting the people know what has happened. I thought you might be interested, too, in the line I am following with regard to building the strength of the Republican Party. It seems to me that instead of continually stating the obvious, ‘We have to have Ike,’ —we should recognize the responsibility we all have to do our part as well.” In fine condition, with tack and punch holes to top edge, and a few horizontal folds.
