RICHARD NIXON (1913-94). 36th President of the United States. He is the only man to have been elected twice to the Vice Presidency and twice to the Presidency. On August 9, 1974, he became the only man to resign the Presidency.
OFFERED HERE: Oversized Document Signed as President, 1p, folio, July 20, 1972, appointing William P. Lear, Sr., to be a ?Member of the President?s Committee on the National Medal of Science.? It is in excellent condition, with no folds, tears, or stains. There is some discoloration along the top extreme edge (likely from prior framing) and one shallow crease in the upper right quadrant. The document is countersigned by the Secretary of State, William P. Rogers, and sports an embossed Seal of the United States. This large Presidential document measures about 18" x 14", has magnificent eye appeal, and would mat and frame nicely. Appointments such as these are not very common, particularly to noteworthy recipients. Comes with a high-quality giclee image, suitable for matting and framing together.
WILLIAM P. LEAR, JR. Born in Hannibal, Missouri, Lear attended public school in Chicago through the eighth grade. At age 16 he joined the Navy, where he learned radio electronics. Following World War I he took up flying. An early Lear design, a practical car radio, launched the Motorola Company.
