Handwritten notes by President Richard Nixon. Notes are from a collection of handwritten Nixon documents collected by Nixon's biographer and New York Herald Tribune political journalist Earl Mazo, who wrote, ''Richard Nixon: A Political and Personal Portrait''. Published in 1959, the book's source material was written near or before 1958. Nixon was Vice President at the time. His notes fall under three headings ''Aims?'', ''Civil Rights'' and ''Reps versus Dems''. Under ''Aims'', he writes, ''Too many to mention / 1. Leisure / 2. 4 day week / 3. Urban Blight...5. Education - local - primarily / but Fed...supplant''. As a subcategory under eduction he writes, ''1. Teacher relations are disgraceful - / pride (which he has crossed out) pay, prestige''. His notes under the ''Civil Rights'' heading read, ''...steady solid program - by law...Northern as well as South problem...Churches...throw weight around / R. T. W. It won't accomplish the job - isn't aimed at right target''. On ''Reps Versus Dems'' he writes, ''...Both are divided...''. Single page of notes measures 8'' x 12.5''. Faint creasing. Near fine.
