This oil painting by Richard Kaiser (1868-1941) from in 1905 was created in Munich, where the artist had lived and worked since 1894. The viewer’s gaze is directed over a rolling landscape of meadows, fields and woods. The blue sky is crossed with thick clouds. The breathtaking spaciousness, which characterizes all of Kaiser’s work, is rendered in a myriad of different shades of green. The landscape and trees are elaborated with broad dabs of color. An atmospheric work, which illustrates Kaiser’s oeuvre par excellence.



The painting is in visually very good condition. There is scattered or minor retouching in the area of the sky as well as a small retouching to the upper outer edge on the right, only visible under UV light. The work is signed ‘Richard Kaiser’, dated ‘1905’ and inscribed ‘Munich’ lower right. The frame shows some wear and shows a minor loss in one corner. The framed work measures 76.5 x 115.5 cm, the stretcher frame measures 61 x 100 cm.



Richard Kaiser (1868-1941)

Richard Kaiser initially began training to become a court official before he attended the Berlin Academy under Max Koner and Eugen Bracht thanks to a scholarship and graduated with distinction. In 1894 Kaiser moved to Munich, where he became a member of the Secession. He worked as a landscape painter, favoring plein air painting. He found his themes on the North and Baltic Seas, in the Alpine landscapes as well as in the area of Munich and Magdeburg. Richard Kaiser regularly exhibited his work at home and abroad.
