Union General, governor of Illinois and the man who introduced the rail-splitter image for Lincoln (1824-1899). ALS signed “R. J. Oglesby,” one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 8, June 30, 1887. Letter declining an invitation. In part: “It will not be possible for me to attend your Fair this fall. I would of course be pleased to do it if I could but it will be impossible.” In fine condition, with some mild toning and some light mirroring of ink from folding.
