Second bishop of Alabama in the Episcopal Church (1816–1900) who was a slaveholder and strongly supported the confederate cause. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Wilmer in his vestments by B. Moses of New Orleans, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Rich. H. Wilmer.” In fine condition, with subtle silvering to dark areas of the image and light toning to the lower border.
