Richard Ellis, Westminster (d. 1749) A GEORGE II MAHOGANY-CASED 8-DAY LONG-CASE CLOCK, the hood having a swan-neck pediment with flowerhead-cast brass terminals, above gilt blind fretwork decoration flanking a greek fret cornice, the arched glazed door between turned broadening columns with brass capitals, the plain trunk with arched door on a plain base with shaped apron and intergral bracket feet, the movement, striking the hours on one bell, having an arched brass dial with silvered subsidiary Strike/Silent chapter ring between cornucopia-cast spandrels, above a silvered main dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, framing subsidiary silvered seconds dial, kidney-shaped plaque inscribed "Rich'd Ellis Westminster" above date aperture, the spandrels cast with human masks within foliate scrollwork, 223.5cm, (88in) high (no back to case) (sold with two weights plus pendulum) Est.£1500/1800
