Signed book: Skyward. First edition, first printing. NY: G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1928. Hardcover, 6 x 8.75, 359 pages. Signed and inscribed vertically in fountain pen on the frontispiece photo: “To Helen M. Wileax, with cordial good wishes. R. E. Byrd. May 14, 1928.” In very good condition, with evenly toned pages, the protective tissue for the frontis portrait separated, and mild wear to the spine. This book covers Byrd's historic flight over the North Pole, and his near disastrous flight from New York to Paris. With many illustrations from drawings, photographs, and a folding map.
