PROVENANCE: Estate of Kenny Lee, Legendary Hollywood Wrangler and Stuntman

How Paladin Came to Have his Saddle...
Kenny Lee was already working on a project when Paramount called him to be the wrangler on their new series, "Have Gun Will Travel." Kenny turned it down, but recommended wrangler, Carl Scarsdale for the job. In the middle of Season 2, Kenny ran into Carl, and Carl asked if he liked the show. Kenny said he liked it just fine, but he wondered why Boone rode a different saddle in every episode. It didn't seem right to him. Carl agreed, as did the show's producers, and San Fernando Valley Saddelry was given the assignment. The saddle was first featured in Season 3 and became Paladin's saddle thereafter. When Boone finished the series, he rode the saddle, without the saddle bags, in a few films. During filming of "The Shootist" Boone, knowing he was ill, gave the saddle to Carl Scarsdale. In the end, Carl presented it to Kenny Lee as a thank you gift since, "Kenny got us the show" in the first place.
(As told by Kenny's son, Robert Lee.)
