Rhyolite,NV - Nye County - 1906-07 - Beatty Ranch Near Rhyolite RPC :
A blue-toned real photo showing 4 small buildings in a grove of aspen trees. The caption reads: “The Beatty ranch near Rhyolite, Nev.” Three of the structures are wooden—one appears to be a house—and the fourth building is stone. There is a personal message written around the margins, addressed to Dear Louise. Postmark is illegible. The photographer is A.E. Holt, with a date of 1906. The town of Beatty (October 1904) was named for “Old Man” Montillius Beatty, on whose original property the town is situated. It is only about 4 miles from Rhyolite. This is a photo of the family ranch that gave Beatty its name. The trees indicate the availability of water, which the Beatty ranch supplied to both Rhyolite and Bullfrog. “Although Beatty never reached a population of much over 650, it became the supply center for all the other mining towns in the Bullfrog Mining District. With an Ice House, several Hotels, Saloons, Newspaper, Fresh Produce, Meat Markets, and General Mercantiles, Beatty had everything that anyone could want, including plenty of water.”[Ref: www.beattynv.info/history.html].
