A widespread financial panic causing runs on banks and a short supply of Federal notes necessitated a form of currency to keep banks in operation. Although illegal, the government ignored currency laws banning them. This "Rhyolite Clearing House Certificates", 7.25 x 3.5 inches, not filled in, Rhyolite, Nevada, November 30, 1907, in the amount of $20. These notes, which were offered in $1, $5, $10 & $20 denominations backed by securities on deposit, were redeemable at the Bullfrog Bank & Trust Company, John S. Cooke & Co. and the First National Bank of Rhyolite. This unsigned $20 scrip Series C printed on orange paper with orange safety print and dark orange under print of vignette certificate.
