Minor to moderate wear to board edges and spine ends; a few bumped corners. Hinges are tight and firm; textblock of each volume is exceptional. American industrialist James Ford Rhodes made his fortune in the iron, coal, and steel industries, eventually retiring in 1885 to research and write topics of historical significance. Using newspapers and published memoirs, Rhodes meticulously dissected and reviewed the processes by which national decisions were made, as well as evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of major political and social leaders. Rhodes' work is generally considered to be evenhanded and lacking any discernable bias.
