Rex Harrison Signed Personal Letter
Rex Harrison Signed Personal Letter - Some great stars have a long and distinguished career, but find themselves in one role that literally defines them for life. A most magnificent example of this is Rex Harrison, who of course will always be known for creating one of the greatest characters on stage and the screen as Professor Henry Higgins in “My Fair Lady”. His career spanned over 50 years with over 100 motion pictures and stage productions, including, besides the beloved Professor, “Doctor Dolittle”, “Cleopatra”, “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”, and “The Agony and the Ecstasy”. An extremely private man, who spent his “off screen/stage” time far away from the spotlight, autographs, let alone personal handwritten letters from this legend, are extremely rare. This is a personally written letter from Rex Harrison to his long time friends, actor Van Johnson and his wife Evie, thanking them for their note to him wishing him good luck on his new Broadway play “Venus Observed” in 1952. The play was being directed by Laurence Olivier, and was written by award-winning playwright Christopher Fry. It is handwritten by Mr. Harrison on his personal stationary, and is signed “Rex”. It also includes his original personal stationary envelope, which he has addressed himself, as well as written his name over his printed address on the back. The envelope has the original New York Postmark (dated February 25, 1952), along with three two-cent cancelled stamps. This wonderful piece of historic memorabilia comes from Van Johnson’s personal collection and includes a Letter of Provenience from his daughter Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
