Carved design powder horn displaying name and date area Dan Pond-His Powder Horn-1776. Other designs on horn include:1.) circle of 12 interlocking rings with the central text American Congress-We Are One, 2. nautical scene depicting 2 ships. Larger one identified as The Rose-Ship of War, the smaller on identified as a tender. Surface of horn also decorated with vine and repeating geometric patterns. Horn presents dark patina and does exhibit some minor insect damage near butt with minimal involvement of design. Origin of horn: eastern Connecticut/Rhode Island. The HMS Rose was a British 6th class frigate that sailed Narragansett Bay in early 1776 to curtail smuggling into Newport, Rhode Island.
