''Gazette of the United States'' issue 23 of volume IV, published 18 August 1792 in Philadelphia. 4pp. newspaper measures 10'' x 16.5''. The ''Gazette,'' a biweekly Federalist mouthpiece created by John Fenno, was first published in New York in 1789 but followed the government to its new seat in Philadelphia. In response to its partisan articles, the ''National Gazette'' was created in 1791 at the urging of anti-Federalists Jefferson and Madison. Ink notations at top of newspaper and mild toning, otherwise near fine condition.
