Revolutionary War Era Lithograph of New York, DER EINZUG DER KONIGLICHEN VOLCKER IN NEU YORCK, 12.75" x 18.5", published by F.X. Habermann, Augsburg, Bavaria, circa 1776. German and French captions are below this colored print showing the British re-entering New York City during the American Revolution. The print is accompanied by a 1945 one page TLS from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Curator of Prints, W.M. Ivins, Jr. He explains that this is "...one of the fictitious views of New York which form part of a series issued...for use in 'Peep Shows'. They are known as 'Vues d'Optique'." Accordingly, this print has a title line in the top margin that is reversed as if for viewing in a mirror. Light soiling, else fine condition.
