Satirical French Engraving, MAL LUI VEUT MAL LUI TOURNE DIT LE BONNE HOMME RICHARD, 11.5" x 13.75", ca. 1780. This allegorical cartoon positively gloats over the adverse effect the American Revolution was having on British shipping. A distraught Englishman, presumably "Richard", wrings his hands while the British lion naps at his feet; an American is busy sawing off the horns of a cow personifying British commerce while a Dutchman milks the beast; a Frenchman and Spaniard stand nearby with bowls ready to receive the cow's bounty. In the background an English ship, Eagle, is grounded outside of Philadelphia. Normal aging as expected with light soiling. Fine condition with professional matt and ready to frame.

Important notice
