<B>Revolutionary War Deserter</B></I> A good content Autograph Document Signed by Cornet James Wells of Bull's Light Dragoons, one page, 7.25" x 12", Newtown, [Connecticut], April 30, 1778 concerning a deserter. He writes, in full: "<I>Deserted yesterday Morning from Capt.</B></I> [illeg.] <I>Bulls Troop of L</B></I>[ight] <I>D</B></I>[ragoons] <I>Station'd in this town one Michael Hurley an Irishman, not far from 21 years of Age, about 5 feet 5 Inches high well Set good complection </B></I>[sic] <I>dark brown, Short curl'd hair had a doen cast look, with his Eyes - Had with him a coppy</B></I> [sic] <I>of a pass, given by Lt. Col. Dison coppied & signed by --- Justice of Piece</B></I> [sic] <I>in Ridgfield -- Had on when He went away a deep bleu </B></I>[sic] <I>Coat, with very long sleeves, a </B></I>[illeg.] <I>waistcoat, a white shirt, stock or red Sik Handkerchief and brown linen Britches, wore a maro</B></I>[o]<I>n braised</B></I>[?] <I>bound hat -- Whoever will take up & confine Sd Hurley in any Continental Gaol or Guard House or return him to the Troop shall have ten Dollars Reward and all necessary Charges paid by me --- James Wells Cornet of </B></I>S[ai]d<I> Troop N.B. the above Deserter stole from one of the Men belonging o the Troop, 13 Dollars and a pare </B></I>[sic]<I> of Silver kneebuckles, and is Said to be a noted thief, It's hop'd that every one will be careful to </B></I>[illeg.] <I>such a villin</B></I> [sic]." Lightly toned, with deep folds and separations occurring thereat, otherwise very good.
