Rare Revolutionary War Continental Army 2nd Regiment Uniform Cuff/Vest Pewter Button With Its Shank Intact
c. 1778 American Revolutionary War, Continental Army 2nd Regiment, 1-piece, Uniform Cuff/Vest Button, Cast Pewter with Integral Shank Intact, Fine.
Illustrated and listed as Revolutionary War Continental Army 2nd Regiment Uniform Button measures 18 mm (about .75” diameter), Numeral 2 on face within broken circle, similar in design to Item R2v shown on Page 12 of “Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons,” by Alphaeus H. Albert. According to Don Troiani in his reference book “Military Buttons of the American Revolution” this type attributed to c. 1778 Massachusetts Ordinance Buttons and has the “turrent back” style shank with two drilled sewing channels at ninety degrees. This Button listed and illustrated on page 121 as AM02.d. to which this current example compares closely in its quality. Rare to find these buttons with their shank and designs mostly intact to clearly show all devices. Impressive natural patina.
