William Matthew Prior (May 16, 1806 – January 21, 1873) was an American Folk Artist known for his portraits, particularly of families and children. Minor paint retouch on the tip of Lincoln’s nose, otherwise the image is in excellent quite vivid condition. The back of the original wood frame still bears the frame maker’s label: “Coates & Dixon, Gilders, Boston. William Matthew Prior; Reverse Painting on Glass (attributed), Portrait of Abraham Lincoln.
