Reverend John Fuller Autograph Letter Signed, four integral pages written on pages one, two, and four, 7.75" x 12.5", July 1772, Plainfield, Connecticut. Considerable weakness and tearing at the folds, else good. In the letter Fuller tells of his work as spiritual guide for the people of Plainfield. There is also a fair amount of gossip, "Old Lawyer Aplin is almost gone under a mob of deseaes [sic] and he hath indulged (by crediable [sic] accounts) himselfe [sic] of late in a very liberal use of spirituous liquor ..." There is also mention of slavery.
Reverend John Fuller was ordained as pastor of the church in Plainfield, Connecticut on February 3, 1769. After a pastorate there of eight years and eight months, he died October 3d, 1777. In the latter part of 1775, when the Eighth Regiment of Connecticut was formed for service, he became its chaplain, and doubtless contracted disease in the service of his country that ended his days. The legend on his tombstone on Burial Hill is as follows: " John Fuller, after watching for the souls of his people as those who must give account, fell asleep, Oct. 3, 1777.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
