Revolutionary War Era French Charleville Model 1763-66 Flintlock Infantry Musket, NVSN, .69 cal., 44'' barrel with bayonet lug at muzzle marked ''C'' near the breech and has three spring-retained barrel bands (top band of the double-strap type with integral blade front sight and ramrod channel, middle band with sling swivel); bevel-edge lockplate with a pointed teat at rear is marked ''Charleville'' in script beneath the pan; other steel furniture consists of a serpentine sideplate, triggerguard having long top and bottom tangs and a sling swivel at front of bow, buttplate, and button-tip ramrod; oil-stained European walnut fullstock nicely carved where the slim wrist meets the comb. Appears to be in original flintlock configuration with unbushed touchhole and all original parts. Condition is very good, the steel parts having a mostly smooth deep-brown age patina with scattered erosion. Stock is smooth and solid having a crack at wrist and sideplate, but sound, a minor loss at rear of lockplate, ''ED'' carved at left butt, and nice grain and color. Action is strong; bore is clean with erosion toward muzzle. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
