Republican Campaign Ball: Unusual Badge
Republican Campaign Ball: An Unusual Turn of the Century Badge. Probably issued in the era of American cockiness following the easy victory in the Spanish-American War when expansionist fever was at its peak. The ribbon reads "Allied Republican Clubs of Philad., And the whole Republican Ticket", while the 1" celluloid depicts a large ball with the legend "American invasion of the world, Republican Campaign Ball. In the politics of the 1840s, it was a tradition to roll giant balls from town to town to attract attention to the campaign. Presumably this interesting badge refers to a revival of that tradition. Some typical fading of the lettering on the ribbon, otherwise excellent.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
