Rare 1837 Republic of Texas loan note between a James Cole, Isaac Connelly and the lender, well known Lt. Colonel Joseph L. Bennett, signed ''Jos. L Bennett'' upon the verso. Note reads, ''On or before the 11th day of April next we or either of us promise to pay Joseph L. Bennett One hundred and Eleven dollars...1837 / James Cole / Isaac Connelly''. Bennett was headed for San Antonio to assist in the defense of the Alamo until he learned of its defeat. 6'' x 7.75'' note has expected toning, some light chipping and soiling. Overall very good condition.
