c1836 Lot of 3: first is a $100 bond certificate, complete with 10 revenue stamps below. This large 10"x7.5" note is crowded with 4 vignettes, medallions, the Texas star, and denomination indications. The litho was printed by the Southern Bank Note Co. Endicott & Clark New Orleans. It is signed by David G. Burnet, the first Governor of the Republic. Second is a $5 dollar note from the State of Texas, dated 1862. This has a cancellation "X" through its center. Third is a State of Texas Revenue stamp good for $40 dollars, dated January 1863. The Republic of Texas existed from 1836, when it gained independence from Mexico, to 1846. After numerous battles with the Commanches, and with Mexico, it was annexed by the US in 1845, becoming a state in 1850. Lynn Langdon Collection - HKA#65644
