Lot of 2 different. 1) Republic of Texas, (Austin), $20, 1840. This currency is a promissory note payable 12 months after date. It is signed by Mirabeau B. Lamar, who served from 1838 to 1841 as the second president of the fledgling nation. 2) Government of Texas, Houston, $50, 1839? This is a bearer note payable one year from date. Also signed by Lamar as president, this note was printed just before the country's capital was moved from Houston to Austin. Both notes have numerous cut cancels. Both about 3 x 7"
