1992, 2 Rupees EXPT Coin, Hyderabad Mint, Copper-Nickel, 6.89 g, 26.90 mm, 1.72 mm thick, National Integration type, with EXPT within two parallel lines on both sides. Scalloped with 12 notches. NGS Graded as MS 62. Probably Unique and a historical piece of what was supposed to be minted for circulation. Coins of 2 Rupee denomination were introduced in India in 1990. However, this had a short life of only a year and no coins were minted thereafter. A couple of years later in 1992, the 2 Rupee denomination was revived in lighter weight reduced from 8 grams to 6 grams. The size was also reduced from 28 mm to 26 mm. However, this change did not happen immediately. This was preceded by an Experimental Pattern coin which never saw the day light. The present coin is a unique example of what was going on behind the walls of the Indian mints. This is slightly heavier & amp; broader coin minted in 1992 by Hyderabad Mint as an experiment but in a novel shape of scalloped circle with 12 notches. This shape was not new to India as aluminium coins of 10 Paise were minted from 1971 to 1982. Such a beautiful coin design was not approved for unknown reasons and was never minted for circulation. Had this coin minted in this shape, a lot of confusions and troubles could have been eliminated because of similarity of new 2 Rupee coins with that of existing 1 Rupee coins. Nevertheless, this is a solidarity specimen in the grab of coin& nbsp;connoisseurs.
