Reproduction Late War Prototype Sweptback Style Gustloff K98 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle
This is a late WWII German K98 rifle produced at the Gustloff-Werke, Werke Weimar facility with a copy of a sweptback side rail sniper rifle system. These late war mounts were intended to be an easy to produce, rigid and robust scope mount and base system that could be easily mounted on the standard K98 rifle without special sized receivers or complicated soldering and mounting techniques, that utilized the new ZF4 style of scope that was also a war expedient version of the traditional German sniper scopes. The rifle is equipped with a ZF 4 scope with a rubber eye piece, mounted on a phosphate mount numbered to the gun. The left side of the scope is marked "Gw ZF 4/64161". The top of the receiver ring is marked with an "eagle/37" proof over "bcd/ 4", the right side is marked with an "eagle/37" proof and the left side with a Nazi firing proof and the serial number. The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and the top at the breech is marked "cecu" and two "eagle/37" proofs. The left side receiver wall is marked "Mod. 98". All visible numbers match. Hooded ramp inverted "V" front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Stamped barrel bands and trigger guard, and milled floor plate, and the bolt has the late war "key" style safety. The laminated stock is marked on the right side with the letter "H" and with an eagle proof on the bottom and is fitted with a checkered cupped buttplate. Complete with an original slotted cleaning rod.
