Reno,NV - Washoe County - 1942 - Bank Club & Bar Calendar :
Calendar featuring a tastefully rendered nude female. She stands with her arms outstretched, her head tilted back, and her face and upper torso bathed in light. The lithograph measures 8" x 10 1/2," and is mounted on a black matte measuring 11 1/2" x 16 1/2." A green border surrounds the artwork, while a red and green border surrounds the matte. The calendar, dated 1942, is titled "Season's Greetings." It is attached by string to the matte near the bottom, and measures 4 x 2". Printed under the calendar is the producer, "Brown & Bigelow, St. Paul, Minn." The artist, Earl Moran, was considered a master of pastels. Born in Iowa, he attended the Chicago Art Institute and became a star after breaking onto the scene in 1933 with his provocative "Golden Hours," while under contract to Brown and Bigelow. He broke into advertising while working for Sears-Roebuck. His other credits include magazine illustration (Life), movie posters ('Something for the Boys', 1944) and co-published an early "girlie" magazine named Beauty Parade. His most enduring pin-ups feature his famous late '40s model, Marilyn Monroe. (Ref: mutoworld.com/Moran) A very fine piece.
